Front-of-House Lead

The historic Fox Tucson Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, arts enthusiast who is dedicated to creating an exceptional event experience. Become a member of our team as Front-of-House Lead and help to welcome our community back into our stunning, historic venue at the heart of Tucson’s vibrant downtown. 

The Fox’s Front-of-House Lead oversees successful, patron-first operation of public events at the Fox and serves as the leader for the House Management team who are responsible for opening the building, front of house preparation, setting the appropriate curtain times in communication with the Production team, meeting and greeting groups, volunteer staff supervision, training and scheduling, closing the building and other related duties as required.

Schedule and Start Date: Regular part-time, 12-20 hrs/week, evenings and weekend; dependent on event schedule; desired start date August 9.

Compensation: $17 – $20/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages the front of house operations during public events.
  • Communicates promptly with Audience Services and Production teams regarding front of house operational needs, customer service issues or concerns, and other issues arising at events.
  • On-site Front of House authority in the absence of the Director of Audience Services.
  • May perform any position in the front of house–usher, cashier, bartender, and/or any others when needed.
  • May make pre-show or intermission announcements.
  • Responsible for patrons’ safety, comfort, and enjoyment of a performance by functioning as a problem-solver in a flexible, pleasant, and understanding manner.
  • Assists Director of Audience Services in developing and administrating Front of House policies and procedures including emergency and safety procedures, dress codes, expectations for front of house and volunteer usher staff, training front of house staff on equipment, procedures and patron protocol.
  • Ensures that all staff know safety rules and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Leads House Manager Team: works closely with Director of Audience Services to coordinate communications across job functions, leads team meetings and schedules House Managers ensuring that all shifts are covered.
  • Serves as point-person for communications with Volunteer Coordinator, Security and Front of House team.
  • Communicates policy and procedure on Front of House operations to all Front of House staff, volunteers, security, etc.
  • Ensures that Front of House procedure information is accurate, up to date, and readily accessible.
  • Troubleshoots Front of House issues in collaboration with Audience Services and/or Production staff depending on the situation.
  • Provides an exceptional example for all House Managers and volunteers, and models best practices.
  • Promotes effective community and volunteer relations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and calm demeanor in a fast paced, high volume pressure filled environment.
  • Capable of communicating professionally, positively and enthusiastically with patrons, donors, theatre staff/volunteers, agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively and articulately speak from the stage and deliver occasional announcements.
  • Experience in working with the public in a retail or customer service environment, performing arts industry preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, ticketing software, CRM systems, with ability to learn new software and have working knowledge of online social media promotion (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
  • Exceptional inter-personal skills in written and spoken communication formats, and professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Must be available for significant weeknights and weekend hours.

House Manager

The Fox’s House Manager oversees successful, patron-first operation of public events at the Fox and is responsible for opening the building, front of house preparation, setting the appropriate curtain times in communication with the Production team, meeting and greeting groups, public speaking, volunteer/front-of-house/patron supervision, closing the building and other related duties as required. The House Manager provides general direction to and supervision over ushers, bartenders, security and has full front-of-house authority over every event in the absence of the Director of Audience Services.

Schedule and Start Date: casual hourly, evenings and weekend; dependent on event schedule; desired start date August 9.

Compensation: $15-$17/hour

Bartender

Bartenders are responsible for mixing and serving drinks to patrons and upselling concessions and/or merchandise.  Bartenders are also responsible for setting up, cleaning, stocking bars as well as efficiently serving all products in a friendly and timely manner.

Schedule and Start Date: part-time, casual hourly; dependent on event schedule/sign up; desired start date August 12.

Compensation: $13/hour + shared tips

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves beer, wine, water, coffee, tea and/or soft drinks to patrons during selected Sheldon Theater events. 1.1 Checks identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol;
  • Collects money for drinks served, makes correct change and balances cash receipts;
  • Monitors customers to avoid over serving alcohol;
  • Restocks the bar with beer, wine, soda, and other related supplies such as glassware or napkins;
  • Safely removes any broken glass;
  • Cleans glasses and/or bar equipment at the end of the shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to lift up to 60lbs (30lbs on average)
  • Able to be on feet for 6-7 hours as well as walk up and down stairs often. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • AZ Liquor certified
  • At least 21 years old
  • Three years customer service experience required (food & beverage experience preferred)
  • Comfortable in fast paced work environment
