Every summer, The Fox Tucson Theatre’s KIT (Kids In the Theatre) Program partners with local literacy-related organizations to put on a free community event, with the goals of:
- Making literacy, in many forms, extra fun and engaging
- Connecting the dots between community members and the amazing organizations working on literacy in Southern Arizona
- Countering the effects of “summer learning loss” in students developing reading skills, by encouraging mid-summer literacy and reminding parents and caretakers to keep up the reading
In the summer of 2021, we held two limited capacity literacy events to allow for plenty of distancing.

In 2020 , we produced an online literacy+arts extravaganza, the content of which is still available to explore here.
In the summer of 2019, we provided almost 1,000 community members with a wide range of experiences:
-
- Fun and hands-on literacy activities
- Screening literacy-oriented shows and Academy Award Winning/Nominated animated short movies
- Storytimes, in which books were read by the same authors/illustrators featured in the movies
- Meeting story characters
- Getting free books, snacks, and other goodies
