Music | Las Azaleas presents Como la Flor – celebrating Selena

Join Tucson’s own all-Latina musical group in celebration of our “reina Selena”. Las Azaleas invites audiences to sing along to some of Selena’s greatest hits at Tucson’s Historic Fox Theatre.

Formed by Diana Olivares in the summer of 2020, Las Azaleas embark on a mission to share the works of pioneering women in Latin music through their performances. Their sound is influenced by mariachi, trio, and bolero music, and the repertoire performed is selected to help further acknowledgement of incredible Latina artists of the past and present.

Las Azaleas can be seen performing throughout Tucson! Las Azaleas made their Fox Theatre debut in March of 2022, serving as support for the grammy winning group Flor de Toloache. and have had the privilege of being appointed musical directors for the 2021 All Souls Procession Finale Ceremony. With thousands of Tucson’s citizen’s in attendance, Las Azaleas are proud to have performed and represented the Mexican American community as well as strong empowered latinas at such a significant event for our city. Las Azaleas have been invited to perform at various public events including the Tucson International Mariachi Conference Garibaldi, Pueblos del Maíz Bocaditos event, Tohono Chul Holiday Nights, Bisbee Mariachi Festival, and the North American Association for Environmental Education conference.

Las Azaleas can be seen performing every month at Del Cielo Tamal Restaurant, The Downtown Clifton Hotel, and Most Holy Trinity catholic church in Tucson, AZ. They are proud to be latina-led and love their city of Tucson. The group hopes to inspire audiences and young musicians to pursue their dreams and passions just as every member of the group does both personally and collectively as a music group. Her father, Abraham (Edward James Olmos), realizes that his young daughter is talented and begins performing with her at small venues. She finds success and falls for her guitarist, Chris Perez (Jon Seda), who draws the ire of her father. Seeking mainstream stardom, Selena begins recording an English-language album which, tragically, she would never complete.
