Fourteen-year-old Olmo (newcomer Aivan Uttapa in a breakthrough performance) is coming of age in 1979 New Mexico, where his family is struggling to make ends meet while caring for his bedridden father, Néstor (Gustavo Sánchez Parra, Amores Perros). But Olmo would much rather hang out with his best friend and impress his beautiful next-door neighbor than shoulder his share of the responsibilities. When she finally invites him to a party on a night he’s been left alone with his dad, Olmo will do whatever it takes to escape, setting off a night of mischief and chaos. From acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Eimbcke (Duck Season) comes a warm, darkly comedic coming-of-age story about adolescence, family, and finding solace in the place you most want to escape.

Olmo, de catorce años (interpretado por el debutante Aivan Uttapa en una actuación revelación), atraviesa la adolescencia en el Nuevo México de 1979, donde su familia lucha por salir adelante mientras cuida de su padre Néstor (Gustavo Sánchez Parra, Amores perros), postrado en cama. Pero Olmo preferiría pasar el tiempo con su mejor amigo e impresionar a su hermosa vecina que asumir su parte de las responsabilidades familiares. Cuando ella finalmente lo invita a una fiesta justo la noche en que debe quedarse solo al cuidado de su padre, Olmo hará lo que sea para escapar, desatando una noche de travesuras y caos. Del aclamado cineasta mexicano Fernando Eimbcke (Temporada de patos) llega esta cálida comedia agridulce sobre crecer, la familia y encontrar refugio precisamente en el lugar del que más queremos escapar.
