Traditional Irish music has found its way into the hearts (and ears) of people all over the world, including in Southern Arizona. The legendary Irish group, Altan, will be bringing the music of County Donegal to the Fox stage. Before their visit, come learn a bit about this genre with a local, world-class Irish musician and dancer with his own Donegal roots. At the theatre and on Zoom, we’ll explore Irish musical traditions, how it has made its way to and lived in Southern Arizona, and open the conversation up to your questions and stories about how such music has touched your life. Please register above.
Christopher McGrory was born into a very musical family originally hailing from County Donegal. At the age twelve he won the coveted All Ireland dance title at the Mansion House in Dublin, and a few years later he also won the All-Ireland championship on accordion. In addition to teaching traditional music and dance in Ireland, he became a much sought-after musician the world over, performing across North America, Europe, and Australia. In 2004 he brought his skills and experience to Tucson, where he has been spreading his love and knowledge of Irish culture ever since.
