Have you been to Second Saturdays downtown recently? We love everything that these events bring to the neighborhood and all summer long, the Fox is getting in on the action with our Music and Movies series. We’ll be pairing one-of-a-kind performances by local music artists with a music themed film.
Music | Six decades into one of songwriting’s most successful and honored careers – marked by 48 Top 10 hits, nine #1 songs, more than 500 compositions and a landmark 50+-year run on the charts, Burt Bacharach’s music continues to set industry records and creative standards. His songs have been recorded by legendary singers, such as Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. Other tributes to the diversity of Bacharach’s music have been paid by, among others, Elvis Costello, REM, Diana Krall, Barenaked Ladies, Sheryl Crow, and Wynonna Judd. Bacharach has been a special guest four times (including season finale in 2006) on the top-rated television series “American Idol”. One of Burt’s #1 hits, “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” is from the 1969 classic film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It’s a blend of uplifting melodies and heartbreaking lyrics that sparks glimmers of hope, you can hear it as B.J. Thomas sings, “it won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me.” In addition to being a huge, pop hit, it also won two Oscars; Best Original Song and Best Original Score.
Back to Bacharach; No matter your age, once heard, the songs of Burt Bacharach become part of the musical backdrop of your life.
