This touching and memorable Christmas story of a boy who has reached that certain age when he begins to have doubts about whether or not Santa Claus is real. It happens late one Christmas Eve. The young boy is lying awake, straining to hear the sound of sleigh bells ringing from Santa’s sleigh. Suddenly, his room begins to shake, and he hears a thunderous roar outside his window. He jumps from his bed and runs to his window where surprisingly, he sees a train parked on his lawn! Grabbing his robe, he rushes out the front door and stops and stares in awe at the huge, steaming train. The train’s conductor (voiced by Tom Hanks) startles the boy further by asking him if he is getting aboard.

Where are you going?” The boy asks.

Why, to the North Pole, of course. This is the Polar Express!” says the conductor exuberantly.

…and the adventure begins!

More About The Polar Express!
2004 Animated Film based on the classic children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg
Director:  Robert Zemeckis
Starring: Tom Hanks, Chris Coppola and Michael Jeter

The Polar Express offers a tale full of the childlike wonder and exuberance felt during the holidays. In addition, there are so many clever touches and details added throughout the film that a feeling of mystery and excitement keeps the action moving. From the waiters on the train’s show-stopping musical hot chocolate scene, a roller coaster train-ride through the mountains to get to the North Pole and a ghost-like hobo who is never really explained,

On the other hand, much of the film is an excuse to dazzle with roller-coaster-like rides on the express train that roars across various landscapes making wild leaps and turns, all the while thrilling us with a sense of adventure and excitement. For the very young, the ride might be a scary one, especially when the daring young hero rides atop the train during a blustery snowstorm.

Things barely quiet down once the destination is reached at the North Pole. Still there are dangers lurking and the thrills continue with some amazing photographic tricks that can only be done in this new process of computer generated animation.
