Danny Zelisko Presents music legends Jesse Colin Young – best known for his tenure as the founder of influential late 60s-early 70s band, The Youngbloods and for a lengthy, successful, on-going solo career as The Jesse Colin Young Band – and former Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre as they bring their co-headline tour to Fox Tucson Theatre.
Jesse Colin Young has not done any tour dates or studio recordings for over five years, primarily due to his battle with Lyme’s Disease. But a recovering Young has reemerged to give his fans, and the music world in general, can’t miss performances that started with his February U.S. tour dates and will continue throughout the year.
Known for his pristine vocals and sublime guitar work, Young has been touring with his newly formed, smoking hot, eight-piece, international band (all Berklee College of Music graduates and undergraduates). They have been performing new songs he has recently written and old favorites from his nearly 50+ year career. Young founded The Youngbloods in 1965. The band charted Top Five in the pop charts with their indelible, timeless, classic, “Get Together,” sung by Young. This song spoke of overcoming the turmoil and rancor of the turbulent 60s, and over time it has become an anthem of love and understanding for all generations and for all people. In 1973, Young released a ground-breaking record with his new Jesse Colin Young Band. Song For Juli mixed his signature vocals with his innovative jazz, blues, and rock sound, which became the foundation from which his additional successful solo band albums have flowed.
Martin Barre is known to rock fans worldwide. The legendary guitarist had been the guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, his sound and playing having been a major factor in their success, until the band’s breakup in 2011. Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history. Barre’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition; he was voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on the Tull classic Aqualung. His playing on the album Crest of a Knave earned him a Grammy award in 1988. As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Barre has worked with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa and Chris Thompson and has shared a stage with such legends as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Barre has toured successfully worldwide for several years now with his own band, performing the earlier, heavier, blues-rock Tull classics which gave the band its start along with his own original songs and a few choice covers.
Jesse and Martin look forward to providing their fans with an evening of can’t miss musical surprises, both with their own bands and performing together. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. All tickets are subject to facility and ticketing surcharges. All ages welcome.
